KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- Koperasi Bernama Berhad, in collaboration with the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM), has organised the MADANI Sale for the first time, in conjunction with the Ramadan Bazaar programme at Wisma Bernama today.

Koperasi Bernama Berhad chairman Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab said the initiative aims to help the community, particularly employees of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), purchase daily necessities at affordable prices while supporting the cooperative’s involvement in more inclusive economic activities.

He said the programme was also in line with the government’s aspiration to empower the role of cooperatives as drivers of the people’s economy.

“The MADANI Sale programme is not just an effort to offer more competitive prices but also a platform for cooperatives to showcase their strategic role in supporting community well-being.

“Cooperatives participation in such activities can strengthen their competitiveness in the business sector and open up more opportunities for entrepreneurs to introduce small business products to consumers,” he said in a statement.

Also present at the programme were Federal Territory SKM director Fadilah Salim, assistant director Aisyah Ismail and senior assistant director (Development) Siti Sara Hassan.

A variety of local products, including essential food items, fresh produce and daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil and flour, were sold at affordable prices during the programme, which began at 9 am.

Zakaria hoped this initiative would mark the beginning of more similar sale programmes in the future, not only during Ramadan but throughout the year.

He said the collaboration with SKM in organising the MADANI Sale demonstrated the immense potential of cooperatives in strengthening the people’s economy.

“With more cooperatives taking part in initiatives like this, Malaysia’s cooperative ecosystem will become more sustainable and progressive.

“Koperasi Bernama hopes this programme will receive encouraging response from the community and serve as an example for other cooperatives to participate in economic initiatives that benefit all parties,” he said.
