KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- The number of evacuees housed in 21 temporary relief centres (PPS) in Johor and Sabah today dropped to 1,991 individuals compared to 2,593 recorded last night.
In JOHOR, the flood situation continues to improve, with the number of evacuees reducing to 1,853 as of 8 am, compared to 2,455 yesterday, sheltered in 20 PPS across five affected districts.
State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Dr. Azmi Rohani said Johor Bahru remains the most affected district with 680 evacuees, followed by Batu Pahat (621), Pontian (410), Kluang (74), and Kota Tinggi (68).
“Two PPS at Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Kluang, Kahang and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Kahang were closed last night after all evacuees were allowed to return home as floodwaters receded and conditions were deemed safe,” he said in a statement.
Azmi added that weather conditions across nine districts in Johor are expected to be clear this morning, except for Batu Pahat, which is forecasted to be cloudy.
Over in SABAH, the number of evacuees remains at 138 individuals from 41 families in Beaufort, all of whom are sheltered at PPS Dewan Selangon as of this morning.
The JPBN Sabah Secretariat reported that flooding has affected eight villages in Beaufort.
