KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- The International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2025 that is set to take place on Oct 15-17 is expected to generate RM5.5 billion in business leads based on the industry’s compounded annual growth rate.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said IGEM 2025 would have 500 exhibition booths, with participation from 50 countries and attracting about 50,000 visitors.

“We aim to position IGEM as Asia’s premier Greentech & Cleantech Exhibition and Summit.

“It is about influence, impact, and leadership, reflecting Malaysia’s proactive approach to climate action and our nation’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and global progress,” he said during the Soft Launch of IGEM 2025 and the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit (KLSS) here today.

With the theme “Race Towards Net Zero: Inclusivity and Sustainability”, IGEM 2025 will be focusing on five key sub-themes, namely empowering cities, electrifying mobility, decarbonising energy, accelerating circularity, and protecting biodiversity.

“Each is crucial in connecting technology and sustainability to address global challenges. These themes inspire action, encourage dialogue, and drive progress across sectors,” said the minister.

Nik Nazmi further said that IGEM 2024 exceeded its targets, achieving RM10.18 billion in business leads, attracting 250 exhibitors with 500 exhibition booths, and receiving participants from 68 countries.

Since 2010, IGEM has welcomed over 670,000 visitors from 126 countries and facilitated over RM63 billion in business leads.

Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi said the KLSS will be organised for the first time from Oct 14-16, 2025, in conjunction with Malaysia being the ASEAN chair this year.

“KLSS is an international platform that convenes thought leaders to exchange insights and experiences on climate change and sustainability.

“This summit aims to unite participants from all over the region, supporting ASEAN’s commitment to a sustainable and resilient future,” he said.

The summit would include podcasts, keynotes, panels, and roundtables focused on actionable strategies for local, regional, and global impact.

He also said that with the goal of producing the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Climate Resilience, KLSS aspires to position the city as a leading platform for strategic discussions on climate resilience in the years ahead.

He said the ministry plans to hold KLSS as an annual event in the future.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has played a crucial role in driving high-value green investments and securing potential investment leads worth RM6.3 billion, the highest achievement in business leads since its inception.

This achievement underscored Malaysia’s growing appeal as a premier hub for green technology and sustainable development.

“The steady rise in IGEM’s investment leads, from RM3.08 billion in 2020 to RM6.3 billion in 2024, demonstrates the increasing confidence in Malaysia’s green economy.

“MIDA, in close partnership with Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation, remains committed to attracting high-value green investments, solidifying Malaysia’s status as a leading sustainability hub,” said MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid.

He elaborated that in IGEM 2024, the RM6.3 billion in potential investments secured across four vital sectors comprised renewable energy, green hydrogen, electrical vehicle infrastructure, and waste management.
