GRAB MALAYSIA AIMS TO ACCELERATE EV ADOPTION THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- Grab Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BYD Sime Motors, Yinson Green Technologies (M) and Power-Up Tech (P.UP) to drive the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) among Grab's driver-partners nationwide.

In a statement today, Grab Malaysia said the collaboration aims to encourage EV adoption and provide easily accessible EV facilities for Grab's driver-partners, while reducing carbon emission thus contributing to Malaysia's Green Economy.

"Across Southeast Asia, high start-up costs are a major barrier to EV adoption. Through this strategic partnership, Grab aims to accelerate the electrification of the transportation sector by offering EV access at competitive rates to fleet partners and driver-partners, while creating an easily accessible charging infrastructure or facility," the statement said.

To encourage EV uptake, Grab will integrate EVs into its platform including plans to launch EV e-hailing services, exclusive car prices and special rental rates to Grab driver-partners.

In providing a comprehensive EV facility, Grab will develop initiatives that provide EV access at more user-friendly rates for driver-partners, strategic charging infrastructure, training sessions and maintenance support.

Grab Malaysia’s Director of Operations and Mobility, Rashid Shukor said in the same statement that as the leading platform for on-demand transportation and delivery services, Grab is committed to reducing environmental impact while bringing positive social impact.

"Through this collaboration, we are not only supporting Malaysia's sustainability agenda but also empowering our driver-partners with access to greener alternatives.

"By partnering with key industry leaders, we aim to accelerate EV adoption and drive long-term benefits for our communities and the environment," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong, who was also present at the MoU signing ceremony, said the MoU represents an important step in Malaysia's green mobility journey.

"Through government policies and agendas such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, the government has introduced tax incentives and other supports to encourage the adoption of EVs.

"At the same time, the transition to EVs depends on strong collaboration between the government and the private sector. Grab Malaysia's commitment today, together with its partners, reflects this synergy. This partnership reflects our shared vision for a more sustainable future," he said.
