KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- Pakistan delivered the country’s first humanitarian aid consignment for Myanmar earthquake victims on Wednesday.

Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority, in a statement issued in Islamabad, announced that a 35-tonne consignment was handed over to Myanmar authorities at Yangon International Airport.

Ambassador of Pakistan in Myanmar, Imran Haider, along with officials from Pakistan Embassy delivered the relief supplies to the Myanmar authorities.

“The Government of Pakistan and Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority remains steadfast in its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to earthquake-affected people of Myanmar,” the statement read.

Last Friday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, with Mandalay, Bago, Magway, northeastern Shan State, Sagaing, and Naypyidaw being among the worst-affected areas, causing thousands of deaths.

The powerful quake also affected neighbouring Thailand.
