KUCHING, April 15 (Bernama) -- Sarawak is poised to become a focal point for Southeast Asia’s construction industry as it hosts the inaugural International Construction Week (ICW) Borneo Edition, scheduled on May 13 to 14 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.
Organised by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in partnership with Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Qube), the event will highlight East Malaysia’s strategic importance in driving sustainable infrastructure and regional collaboration under the theme ‘Innovative Construction for a Sustainable Future’.
CIDB Corporate Communication Division General Manager Noryani Ismail said the event will feature conferences, exhibitions, as well as opportunities for industry players and stakeholders to share knowledge and showcase the latest technology.
She said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate the event on May 13.
“This year, for the first time in more than 20 years of organising ICW, we are introducing a regional edition of ICW, and it will be held in Kuching.
“There are strategic reasons why we chose to bring this event to Sarawak. Among them, we recognise the rising infrastructure development happening in the state.

“Sarawak is also building its economic and physical development around sustainability and renewable energy, which is very much needed by the construction industry, as we are known to be one of the highest producers of carbon emissions,” she said in a media briefing on the event today.
With an expected attendance of over 3,000 participants, ICW Borneo promises to be a transformative event, shaping the future of construction in Southeast Asia while advancing sustainability agendas across ASEAN nations.
Participants can also discover sustainable technologies at ICW Borneo’s official trade showcase, BuildXpo, which features over 60 booths showcasing smart materials, advanced solutions, and innovative practices tailored to Borneo’s unique infrastructure demands.
Central to ICW Borneo is the Construction Sustainability Summit (CSS) on May 13, a thought leadership forum designed to inspire transformative ideas and actionable frameworks. Distinguished leaders will take the stage, including Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Among the prominent speakers featured at the event are Dr Ir Resdiansyah, Senior Advisor for Infrastructure and Regional Development at the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and Professor Neil Thomas, a renowned expert in the field of innovative construction materials.
