MELAKA, April 17 (Bernama) -- All tourism operators in the state have been urged to gear up to ensure key attractions are in optimum condition for the 2025 World Tourism Day (WTD) and World Tourism Conference (WTC), to be hosted here in September.
State executive councillor for Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture, Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, said with just about four months to go, it is crucial to be prepared to welcome global tourism industry players for the upcoming events.
"Facilities and amenities should be upgraded so that our major tourist sites are at their best to receive international visitors," he said during the 17th anniversary celebration of the Taming Sari Tower in Banda Hilir today.
"WTC and WTD 2025 are major global events on the tourism calendar and key programmes under the United Nations World Tourism Organisation," he added.
Also present were deputy state exco for Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture, Datuk Zaidi Attan, and Melaka Taming Sari Berhad chief executive officer, Nur Azan Hassan.
Abdul Razak expressed hope that all tourism stakeholders would extend their full cooperation to help the state government position Melaka as a world-class host and secure global recognition.
Meanwhile, he shared that since its opening in 2008, the Taming Sari Tower has recorded 8.7 million visitors as of March this year, with a target of 700,000 visitors for 2025.
