FLOOD SITUATION IMPROVES IN JOHOR, UNCHANGED IN SABAH

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Johor continues to show improvement with the closure of a temporary relief centre (PPS) in Segamat this afternoon, while conditions in Sabah remain unchanged.

In JOHOR, State Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said that as of 4 pm, only 41 victims from 12 families were still taking shelter at the PPS at Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak.

“All the evacuees are residents of Kampung Seberang Batu Badak and Kampung Batu 5, Jalan Muar. The PPS at Dewan Komuniti Kampung Tasek, which previously housed 15 victims from five families, was closed at 1 pm,” he said in a statement today.

Azmi added that three rivers remained at alert levels, namely Sungai Muar at Jeti Kampung Tekam with a reading of 3.56 metres, Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap (8.67 metres) and Sungai Kahang at Kampung Contoh in Kluang (14.28 metres),” he said.

In SABAH, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of flood victims remained unchanged, with 155 individuals from 54 families still housed at the Permanent Relief Centre in Selagon, Beaufort.

“Six villages in Beaufort remain affected by the floods, and the evacuation trend remains steady,” the statement added.
