POETRY, SONG COMBINATION CAN PRODUCE MORE PROFOUND WORKS – NASH

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The combination of poetry and song can not only produce more meaningful literary works but also create pieces that captivate the hearts of listeners.

This was the view of popular local singer Datuk Nashrudin Elias, or Nash, who believes that powerful lyrics, coupled with the interpretation of the singer delivering the song, can contribute to the making of a great song.

“Poetry is an art medium that has its own unique appeal and it plays an important role in conveying the thoughts, philosophy and aspirations of society.

“A song, meanwhile, may have simple lyrics but the strength of the music and the singer’s interpretation can turn it (song infused with poetry) into a great piece,” he said at a recent poetry reading event organised by the National Poets Association Malaysia (PEMUISI).

Meanwhile, PEMUISI president Datuk Radzuan Ibrahim said the presence of distinguished figures from outside the literary field as special guests at poetry recitation events organised by PEMUISI can help popularise poetry and introduce the literary art to a wider audience.

“We invite personalities from various fields, including those not involved in writing, to join in developing literature, particularly poetry,” he said.

He added that Nash’s involvement in poetry will hopefully have a positive impact, especially among fans of poetry songs, and further promote poetry and music through collaborations in organising events such as poetry song concerts and seminars.
