2025 MADANI RAKYAT PROGRAMME TO KICK OFF IN TAWAU FROM MAY 9 TO 11

KOTA KINABALU,  April 30  (Bernama) -- The 2025 MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) will kick off this year with its first location at Dataran Majlis Perbandaran Tawau, from May 9 to 11, offering a variety of programmes offering a variety of activities and services aimed at benefiting residents, particularly those on the east coast of Sabah.

Director of the Strategic Programmes at the Performance Acceleration and Improvement Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO),  Mohd Zainuddin Mohd Noor said the decision to hold the event in Tawau was to enable more east coast residents to participate, compared to last year’s PMR, which took place in Likas on the west coast.

“Tawau was chosen so that our outreach programme can better reach the local community. We are bringing services, community support initiatives, and government-led programmes to the area. The public is encouraged to attend and take advantage of the various services provided,” he said in an interview on Selamat Pagi Malaysia aired by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) today.

The 2025 Sabah PMR, themed `Eliminating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship', is organised with the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) as the lead ministry, in collaboration with the Sabah government. Tawau is about 450 kilometres east of Kota Kinabalu.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to close the event at 2 pm on May 11.

Mohd Zainuddin said the Sabah PMR 2025 would feature a variety of activities, including a showcase of seven key areas under Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as legal assistance services where residents can seek advice on legal matters.

He said 600 job vacancies would be offered by participating employers through open interviews during the programme.

In the PMR last year, 1,500 job seekers were offered jobs after the interviews, he added.

The National Registration Department (NRD), he said, will also be providing mobile services, offering advice on citizenship issues in Sabah, as well as handling the registration and replacement of identity cards and birth certificates.

Apart from that, he said, the Royal Malaysia Police would be offering up to 50 per cent discounts on compound summons, along with other activities such as distributing 5,000 crash helmets and organising competitions, including drone and karaoke contests.

He said there will also be distribution of new Quran manuscripts by the Home Ministry for residents to replace old or damaged copies.

A series of ‘pocket talk’ sessions covering various topics, including scam awareness, will also be held throughout the programme, he added.

He said the PMR 2025 will also feature seven satellite programmes for the local community, including the installation of solar-powered lights and the upgrading of futsal courts.

Meanwhile, KUSKOP deputy secretary (Hawkers and Petty Traders Section), Zamrud Yahya, said that 200 types of goods would be available at the MADANI Sales programme, with attractive discounts for visitors.

“We will be featuring 120 One District One Industry (SDSI) entrepreneurs, along with nine food truck operators, providing a platform for residents to enjoy a wide variety of offerings while supporting local entrepreneurs,” he said.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, he said, would collaborate to organise the Rahmah Sales programme, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security would hold an Agro Bazaar,  making it easier for the community to purchase daily necessities at affordable prices.

Additionally, Zamrud said that KUSKOP would be hosting a business matching programme aimed at fostering collaboration among entrepreneurs and providing opportunities for aspiring business owners to learn about available facilities, especially financial assistance options.

Commenting on the theme of PMR 2025 Sabah, Zamrud said it was highly appropriate and in line with the MADANI government and KUSKOP’s efforts to eradicate poverty in Sabah by positioning entrepreneurship as a key strategy in the mission.

“By promoting entrepreneurship, providing training, financial support, and a range of entrepreneurial activities, this initiative will help create job opportunities, generate income, and uplift the poor and B40 target groups to achieve a better standard of living,” he said.
