NEW DELHI, May 7 (Bernama) -- Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following reported cross-border strikes, with both sides issuing strongly worded statements.
India’s Defence Ministry in a statement said Indian forces targeted several sites early Wednesday to hit "terrorist infrastructure", claiming the action as “focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature”.
India said the strikes were in response to the April 22 incident in the Pahalgam area of India-administered Kashmir and claimed that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted.
“India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution," the ministry statement said.
Pakistan, meanwhile, described the Indian action as "blatant aggression" and warned it could respond.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry in a statement said : “Pakistan reserves the right to respond appropriately at a time and place of its choosing, in accordance with the Article 51 of the UN Charter, and as enshrined in international law."
The development comes despite global calls for restraint in recent days.
