ISTANBUL, May 9 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- US President Donald Trump said Friday that Washington is working on multiple new trade agreements, a day after announcing a full deal with the UK.
“Many Trade Deals in the hopper, all good (GREAT!) ones,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, according to Anadolu Ajansi.
On Thursday, the White House confirmed it had finalised a “full and comprehensive” trade agreement with the UK, calling it the “first of many” expected in the near future.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told lawmakers Wednesday that negotiations are ongoing with several countries.
“There are numerous countries … and we are moving forward at all deliberate speed with those,” Bessent said. “Some of them are quite advanced.”
He said the US is in talks with 17 major trading partners and expects most of those deals to be finalised within months.
“I would be surprised if we don’t have more than 80% or 90% of those wrapped up by the end of the year,” he added.
The US is also set to begin trade talks with China on Saturday in Switzerland. The discussions come after months of heightened tensions over tariffs between the two sides.
