TELUK INTAN, May 13 (Bernama) -- The Perak government will provide initial assistance to the families of the Royal Malaysian Police's (PDRM) Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel involved in the fatal crash here this morning.

State Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports Committee chairman, Khairudin Abu Hanipah, representing Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, said that the initial assistance is intended for the funeral arrangements of the victims involved in the accident.

“Insya-Allah, in the next Exco meeting, perhaps the Menteri Besar will discuss with the members to explore other ways of assisting the affected families, and those affected during this difficult time.

“The state government will channel this contribution as a sign of deep concern, as well as for the funeral arrangements and other related processes, and we will announce further details shortly,” he said.

He said this after visiting the Forensic Department at Teluk Intan Hospital, where he offered words of comfort to the family members of the victims involved in the 8.50 am accident, which involved a truck carrying 15 FRU personnel from Unit 5 Ipoh and a lorry carrying gravel stones.

Meanwhile, Khairudin said that he was representing the state government and the Menteri Besar in expressing heartfelt condolences for the tragic incident, which was deeply heartbreaking.

“It is hoped that the families will remain strong in facing this incredibly difficult ordeal. We pray that the souls of the victims be blessed and placed among the righteous.

“For those injured, may they remain steadfast. Insya-Allah, we will pray together for their full recovery,” he said.

Earlier today, Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said that nine FRU members, from Unit 5 Ipoh, were killed in an accident on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, while returning to Ipoh after an assignment in conjunction with the Chitirai Pournami celebration here.

In the incident, eight personnel died at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital.
