KOTA BHARU, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) of Kelantan detained a man on suspicion of attempting to smuggle 675 litres of subsidised petrol during a special operation yesterday.

Kelantan KPDN director Azman Ismail said the suspect was detained at 6.45 am along a route heading towards Pasir Pekan, Tumpat, while parked on the road shoulder of a flyover.

"Upon inspecting the Proton Wira car with a local registration number that was driven by the suspect, the team found several jerricans filled with petrol valued at RM1,383.75.

"The total value of the seizures, including the car, is estimated at RM6,383.75,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and that they will continue to intensify enforcement operations to curb the misappropriation of subsidised fuel in the country.
