KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia stormed into the final of the team regu event at the 2025 Asian Sepaktakraw Cup after defeating India 2-0 in the semi-final held at Stadium Titiwangsa here today.

The victory keeps alive Malaysia’s mission to end a 34-year team title winless streak against perennial arch rivals Thailand, who also advanced to the final by beating South Korea 2-0 to set up a highly anticipated showdown this evening.

Malaysia last lifted a team event title at the 1991 Manila SEA Games.

In the clash against India, national head coach Ahmad Jais Baharun opted to field the trio of Mohamad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Mohamad Azlan Alias and Amirul Zazwan Amir in the opening regu.

The move paid off handsomely as they delivered Malaysia’s first point with a commanding 15-8, 15-6 win.

Buoyed by the result, the second regu comprising Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam, Muhammad Noraizat Mohd Nordin and Muhammad Afifuddin Mohd Razali sealed the tie with another straight-sets victory, 15-8, 15-5.

Malaysia had already clinched gold in both the quadrant and regu events, asserting their dominance in the inaugural edition of the championship.
