KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s automotive sector total industry volume (TIV) fell 16.8 per cent to 60,527 units in April compared to March, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA)
“The year-to-date (YTD) TIV was 5.8 per cent lower than the same corresponding period in 2024,” it said in a statement.
The MAA attributed the slower sales in April to the long Hari Raya break and high festive deliveries in March.
On a year-on-year basis, the MAA said the TIV for April 2025 was up one per cent from the 59,900 units recorded a year earlier, with 55,971 passenger vehicles and 4,556 commercial vehicles sold.
For production, it said a total of 56,313 units were produced in April 2025, down two per cent from a year earlier, comprising 52,925 passenger vehicles and 3,388 commercial vehicles.
On the industry’s outlook for May, the MAA expects the TIV to be higher than April due to the Kaamatan and Gawai festive celebrations in East Malaysia at the end of the month.
"The higher number of working days in May compared to April and the introduction of new models (are also expected to increase sales)," it said in a statement.
