LANGKAWI, May 19 (Bernama) -- The MADANI community of Kampung Kuah expressed their excitement upon receiving a visit from Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today in conjunction with the Bakti Komuniti MADANI programme.

Mahani Mohamad Saleh, 44, a kuih seller and an aid recipient, expressed her gratitude to the MADANI Government for its concern and willingness to reach out to the village community.

"Alhamdulillah, thank you to the minister and the Kampung Kuah Village Committee for coming to my house to deliver food and financial aid to our family.

"I sell kuih to support my family and earn a little money. I am very grateful that the minister came to deliver the assistance. I will save the money and buy necessities when needed," the mother of five told Bernama.

Noorlizarina Saad, 34, expressed her gratitude to the MADANI Government for assisting her mother, Hamidah Saad, 73, who has a hearing impairment.

"We are grateful to receive a food box from the minister. Our family is thankful for this assistance and the minister's visit," said the homemaker.

According to the Information Department, the Bakti Komuniti MADANI programme is a new initiative designed to promote volunteerism by encouraging community participation in activities such as gotong royong, communal feasts, traditional games, and spiritual programmes.

The department said that through the programme, the Communications Minister reached out to the asnaf (tithe recipients) group, distributed essential items and school supplies, and participated in a gotong royong to clean up Surau Al-Mursyidin in the village.

As part of the programme, Fahmi also visited Ilham Ceramics Studio, owned by MADANI Community member Mohamad Radzi Ismail, where he observed a ceramic-making demonstration and tried the activity himself.

During his working visit today, Fahmi also visited the Langkawi District Information Office, which resumed operations at its original premises on Jalan Penarak in Kuah following the completion of maintenance work.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and Information Department director-general, Julina Johan.
