KUCHING, May 20 (Bernama) -- Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) and China Jiangsu International Group (CJI) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to realise Sarawak’s low-carbon vision.

The signing was witnessed by Sarawak’s Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Bhd and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

Petros group chief executive officer Datuk Janin Girie said under the agreement, CJI is appointed as one of the anchor partners for the development of the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub (KLCH).

The KLCH, he said, is a state-of-the-art low-carbon industrial park designed to attract strategic industrial investors aligned with Sarawak’s green growth agenda.

“The Kuching Low-Carbon Hub is a game changer, a transformative initiative to translate Sarawak’s low-carbon policy into real economic opportunities for Sarawakians while contributing meaningfully to Malaysia and the region at large,” he said in a statement today.

CJI will work closely with state-owned Petros to support the master planning of the KLCH, leveraging its expertise in the planning, engineering, and delivery of large-scale infrastructure and industrial developments.

“The KLCH is expected to attract high-quality foreign direct investment, generate high-income job opportunities, and reinforce Sarawak’s position as a future-ready hub for sustainable industrial transformation.

"Petros, which operates across the full oil and gas value chain, is expanding its portfolio into carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), low-carbon energy solutions, and industrial decarbonisation," the statement added.

CJI is a large state-owned enterprise headquartered in Jiangsu Province, China, bringing extensive capabilities in the planning, engineering and delivery of large-scale infrastructure and industrial development projects across Asia, Africa and beyond.
