KUCHING, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) is extending assistance to the families of two film crew members who were killed in a road accident in Betong, about 200 km from here, yesterday.
FINAS chief executive officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib said he was informed of the incident by the Professional Film Workers Association of Malaysia (PROFIMA).
“We (FINAS) have contacted the producer of the filming project to get updates on the situation, and we have also reached out to the families of the two individuals.
“Last night, representatives from Sarawak FINAS were at Kuching Airport to receive the victims’ families, and this morning we took them to Sri Aman Hospital,” he told Bernama when contacted.
He said the victims’ families would also decide whether to have them buried in Sarawak or to bring the remains back to the peninsula.
“FINAS will assist in facilitating processes at the hospital and with the police,” he added.
Yesterday, Sri Aman police chief Supt Dennis Bunyam confirmed that the accident, which involved two vehicles: a Toyota Land Cruiser with five passengers and a van carrying eight passengers, occurred on the Pan Borneo Highway near Skrang Clinic in Betong, claiming the lives of two individuals and injuring 11 others.
