KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, commended the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) on its 10th anniversary today, hoping the agency would continue to progress as the nation's bulwark in disaster management, working towards a safe, resilient and prosperous Malaysia.
In a video posted on all social media platforms, Anwar stated that this milestone is not just a celebration of past success but also a new beginning, urging NADMA to strengthen its preparedness, leverage technology further and enhance cooperation to meet future challenges.
"Today, Oct 1, marks ten years that Nadma has served the nation and its people. For a decade, NADMA has been on the front lines whenever disaster struck, from floods and landslides to haze and the pandemic.
"Every crisis has demonstrated NADMA's unwavering commitment to protecting the lives, property and well-being of the Malaysian people," he said.
The Prime Minister added that the government, himself and all Malaysians deeply appreciate the dedication and sacrifices made by NADMA personnel over the years.
NADMA was established to succeed the National Security Council as the principal agency for disaster management, with a mandate spanning national, regional and international levels.
The Cabinet approved this move following the major floods during the 2014/2015 northeast monsoon season.
