RM62.86 MILLION ZAKAT COLLECTED BY PPZ-MAIWP THROUGH THREE CAMPAIGNS

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) collected RM62.86 million in zakat (tithe) through three campaigns, involving 20,688 payers.

PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Hakim Amir Osman said the Jom Tambah, Semarak Zakat and Jom Ulang campaigns were launched to encourage more individuals, including private sector employees and Muslim civil servants, to fulfil their zakat obligations via PPZ-MAIWP.

“These campaigns also strengthen PPZ-MAIWP’s efforts to increase zakat collection, ensuring that more asnaf in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur receive the benefits,” he said in a statement today.

In the same statement, PPZ-MAIWP said the amount recorded did not include the total collection from the Jom Ulang Campaign, which will conclude on Dec 31.

Winners of the campaigns were celebrated at a ceremony held yesterday at PPZ-MAIWP headquarters in Cheras, with top prizes ranging from holiday and Umrah packages to motorcycles, laptops, folding bicycles, Google TVs, gold bars and electric scooters.

According to PPZ-MAIWP, 28 main winners were present at the ceremony to receive their prizes, comprising seven winners of the Jom Tambah Campaign, 20 from the Semarak Zakat Campaign, and one monthly winner (for August) from the Jom Ulang Campaign.

“Overall, 327 lucky zakat payers were selected as winners at the end of the campaign period,” it said.

In the meantime, PPZ-MAIWP called on those who had previously paid zakat through the centre to contribute again via the Jom Ulang Campaign, which will run until the end of this year.

“The public can still take part in the campaign, where every participation not only gives a chance to win exciting prizes but also helps extend benefits to asnaf in the Federal Territories,” it said.

PPZ-MAIWP also encouraged employees in both the public and private sectors to participate in the Jom Potong Campaign by initiating or increasing monthly zakat payments via the Monthly Zakat Deduction (PZB) Scheme, taking place from July until December.

Among the prizes awaiting the lucky winners are holiday packages, an Umrah package, motorcycles, a PlayStation 5 (PS5), a MacBook Air, and various other attractive rewards, while the first 5,000 payers who start or increase monthly zakat deductions will receive Gloria Jean’s Coffees vouchers worth RM5 (with a minimum purchase of RM15, subject to terms and conditions).
