400 PUPILS FROM 23 COUNTRIES COMPETING IN IMSO 2025 IN ALOR SETAR

ALOR SETAR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- A total of 400 pupils from 23 countries are competing in the 22nd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) 2025 at the Al-Bukhary International University (AIU) here.

The Kedah State Education Department (JPN) said that the five-day IMSO 2025, from Oct 5-9, is an international-level academic competition for pupils aged 13 and below.

"The IMSO aims to raise academic excellence in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), while fostering international friendship through education. It also serves to develop take thinking skills, creativity, and innovation through problem solving and experimentation to a higher level.

"It will also serve as a preliminary platform to unearth the participants’ potential to join other international competitions, such as the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) and International Biology Olympiad (IBO),” it said in a statement.

It added that this year's edition is also unique as it not only focuses on the academic competition, but also combines elements of education, culture and tourism.

"Many programmes and activities are being held, including teachers’ international competition themed 'STEM and Global Education Innovation’, STEM activities at the Northern Region National Science Centre, International Cultural Night, as well as the tourism and cultural visits to Menara Alor Setar and the Paddy Museum.

"This IMSO is not solely a competition but a manifestation of the spirit and unification of the world's outstanding pupils under one educational umbrella that possesses quality, innovation and universal humanitarian values,” it added.
