GOVT TO OFFER EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS IN FIELD OF NETWORK, RADIO ENGINEERING TO FIVE PALESTINIANS - FAHMI

SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The government, through the Ministry of Communications, will offer educational scholarships in the fields of network and radio network engineering to five Palestinians to pursue their studies in this country.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the educational scholarships initiative gives priority to young people from either Gaza, Ramallah, the West Bank, Nablus, or other regions in Palestine who are interested in delving into the field of network or radio network engineering.

"This is one of the efforts by the Ministry of Communications and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) towards the reconstruction of Gaza, as well as developing a better Palestine.

"We believe that education in the field of communication and technology is a form of long-term investment in a more inclusive reconstruction of Palestine in terms of domestic communication," he said at a press conference after launching the Redly Pos Malaysia International in conjunction with the 2025 World Post Day celebration at the National Mail Centre here today.

Fahmi said preliminary discussions have been held with the Palestinian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to examine the entry requirements and implementation of the initiative.

When asked when the initiative could be implemented, Fahmi said his side is still awaiting further feedback, and the process of admission to educational institutions depends on the academic schedule or study semester.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Palestinian embassy also suggested that the Ministry of Communications and MCMC help develop online education classes for Palestinian students, similar to the efforts carried out through the National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) in this country.

He said the suggestion is currently being studied and his side will cooperate with several other parties to provide online classes for children in Gaza and other Palestinian territories.

"This is so that even if there is no physical school, provided they have a device and internet access, they can still continue their learning," he said.

Fahmi said the initiative is among Malaysia's contributions towards the reconstruction of Gaza and the effort to develop a more prosperous Palestine through education and communication technology.

Yesterday, Fahmi was reported to have said that the opportunity to further their studies is aimed at helping the Palestinian people rebuild their communication networks which were destroyed by the bombardment of the Zionist Israeli regime, especially in the Gaza region.
