KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa today launched the Federal Territories Building Repurposing and Adaptive Reuse Policy (RE_NEW) and the Kuala Lumpur Building Repurposing Guidelines.
She said that the policy not only breathes new life into heritage buildings but also helps reduce carbon emissions and preserve the city’s unique identity.
“If a building remains structurally sound, possesses heritage value and holds economic potential, the most sensible approach is to repurpose it — not demolish it in the name of new development,” she said in a Facebook post.
Dr Zaliha launched the policy at Rumah Hijau, Perdana Botanical Gardens here.
She said the policy also offers a range of attractive incentives for developers and operators, including reduced development charges, fast-track approvals, incentive-based rental rates for SMEs and communities, low-carbon recognition, and green matching grants.
“This policy builds on the outcomes of my visit to Italy last May, when the Federal Territory was recognised as a pioneering city for the Baukultur concept outside Europe.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all parties who contributed to making this initiative a reality. Together, let us build a more sustainable, cultured and inclusive #WilayahPersekutuanKita,” she added.
