KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Tamil media practitioners should continue to be given opportunities, support and proper training to enable them to keep producing quality work and contributing to the progress of society and the nation.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said Tamil media practitioners can participate in various courses and training sessions, including those organised by the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR).
“For instance, the Basic Acting Workshop for the public, held from March 3 to 7 this year, gave 30 participants the chance to learn acting fundamentals, build self-confidence and open doors for new talents.
“I’m confident that Tamil media can continue to play a vital role as a cultural bridge and the main voice of the Indian community,” she said at the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund contribution ceremony in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration at Wisma Bernama today.
Also present were Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (Telecommunications Infrastructure) Mano Verabathran, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and Bernama editor-in-chief and HAWANA 2025 project director Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
Teo also expressed appreciation to media practitioners who work tirelessly behind the scenes in delivering news and information.
She said in line with the core values of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasise people’s well-being, social justice and compassion, the government has implemented several measures to uphold the professionalism of media practitioners.
Among them are the extension of social protection coverage for part-time media practitioners through contributions to the Employees Provident Fund and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
Professional development and training opportunities are also being provided by Bernama and IPPTAR, with the most recent milestone being the establishment of the Malaysian Media Council Act, which came into effect on June 14, as a self-regulatory body for the media industry.
