KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Chief de Mission (CDM) of the 2025 Thailand SEA Games, Nurul Huda Abdullah expressed concern over the participation of 18 national athletes scheduled to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year.
This is because the SPM, which will take place from Nov 3 to Dec 23, will clash with the biennial games which will start from Dec 9 to 20.
According to her, at present, she has not yet received a response from the Ministry of Education on whether special relaxation can be given to the athletes involved to allow them to still participate in the games without affecting their respective examinations.
She said the matter has caused a dilemma for athletes and their families to decide whether to participate in the biennial games or take the SPM.
"There have been concerns raised to me about athletes who are supposed to sit for their SPM examinations, which clash with the SEA Games schedule. So far, there has been no definite response," she said when met after the Team Managers' Meeting for the Thailand SEA Games at Wisma OCM today.
In a similar development, Nurul Huda also announced that the team managers at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games will shoulder a huge responsibility following the absence of a games village at the biennial championship with the organisers only providing hotels for athletes and officials involved based on the sports events they are participating in.
Realising the situation, she said her party has instructed team managers to always be prepared for all eventualities that may occur during the games to ensure the welfare of the athletes.
“Our contingent will be spread around so many hotels and that will be a big challenge for us and this is where we will also rely on team managers as well.
“Their responsibility is very huge and this is what I stressed today in our team managers' meeting. They will be responsible and also accountable for their teams welfare,” he said.
In the meantime, Nurul Huda also announced that her party has a shortlist of athletes who will carry the Jalur Gemilang at the biennial games.
According to her, the list will be submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to decide on the suitable candidate to shoulder the responsibility.
