SAFE INTERNET CAMPAIGN EXTENDED TO SIPITANG SCHOOLS

SIPITANG, Oct 15 (Bernama) – The Safe Internet Campaign (KIS), organised by the Communications Ministry through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), has been extended to the Sipitang district to strengthen online safety awareness among primary school students.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today attended the KIS programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sindumin, which involved 90 students from Year Four to Year Six.

In a statement, MCMC said the programme was organised in collaboration with the Sabah State Education Department and has so far been held in 22 of the 29 schools in the district.

“The remaining seven schools in Sipitang will be included soon to ensure the campaign reaches all schools in the district,” the statement read. 

This ongoing effort reflects MCMC’s commitment to enhancing digital literacy and promoting a culture of safe and responsible Internet use among students.

Since its launch in January, KIS has reached 4,734 educational institutions under the Education Ministry (MoE) and Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), including 52 public universities, colleges and teacher training institutes.

Of that number, 434 educational institutions across Sabah have benefited from the programme.

MCMC also said it is strengthening strategic collaboration across ministries, government agencies and industry partners to expand outreach and raise online safety awareness, particularly involving 1,298 schools in Sabah. 

“This initiative not only increases awareness among students but also fosters strong support from schools and local communities in realising the aspiration of ‘Internet Kita, Internet Selamat’ (‘Our Internet, A Safe Internet’),” it said.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah and MCMC Deputy Managing Director (Regulatory and Corporate) Datuk Zurkarnain Mohd Yasin.
