NARATHIWAT, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Three police officers and seven civilians were injured in a bomb explosion near the Yi Ngo District Police Station in Narathiwat, southern Thailand, on Thursday morning.
Yi Ngo District Police Chief, Pol. Col. Naravi Binwaerong, said his department received a report of a roadside bomb explosion in Yi Ngo town at 8:50 am local time.
"Preliminary investigations found that a homemade bomb weighing approximately 10 kilogrammes was planted by the roadside near a coffee shop in Yi Ngo town, about 200 metres from the Yi Ngo District Police Station, and is believed to have targeted the police," he told reporters on Thursday.
Naravi said that among the injured victims, four civilians — including a 79-year-old elderly woman — sustained serious injuries and were sent to Narathiwat Rachanakharin Hospital for treatment.
He added that police are still investigating and do not rule out the possibility that the incident is linked to armed groups in southern Thailand.
