BUKIT MERTAJAM, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Heavy rain last night caused the water of Sungai Kulim to overflow, causing Kampung Tun Sardon near Masjid Jamek Ara Kuda in Kubang Semang here to experience flash flood last night.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said his department received an emergency call at 11.01 pm and the fire brigade immediately went to the location.
"Upon arrival, the fire brigade found that the flood was caused by the overflow of water from the Sungai Kulim due to heavy rain with water rising to about one metre.
"However, no residents were evacuated and the firemen monitored the location to ensure the situation was safe and under control," he said in a statement today.
He said the operations commander ended the operation at 1.54 am after water receded and the situation was safe and under control.
