FESTIVE MOOD IN BRICKFIELDS AS DEEPAVALI SHOPPING PEAKS

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Little India in Brickfields, which offers a wide range of goods, continues to be the main choice for people shopping for Deepavali celebrations.

A Bernama check this evening found that many were still visiting various types of shops to buy items for the festival, which will be celebrated on Oct 20.

Most shoppers were seen carrying bags filled with festive essentials such as new clothes, accessories, home decorations and fresh produce.

In addition, henna and hair salons were also busy receiving a steady stream of customers.

A nurse who only wished to be known as Henna, 40, said it had been her annual routine to buy festive clothes for her family, as there were many options available at shops here.

“There are many varieties and offers here, and today I bought two pairs of festive clothes for my children. The prices here are reasonable, and some shops offer some discounts,” she told Bernama when met with her two school-going daughters.

Besides locals, Little India also attracts many tourists and foreign nationals eager to shop, especially to take advantage of the attractive deals.

For Shilpa, 40, who has lived in Malaysia for two years, the good quality of products was one of the main reasons she shopped here.

“Very good compared to many other countries because I’ve lived in many places, but there is a very big choice of items here,” she said, accompanied by her family to buy prayer items, fresh items and home decorations for Deepavali.

Originally from central India, she said today’s last-minute shopping was also in conjunction with “Dhanteras”, which was considered an auspicious day to make new purchases

“There is this specific day which is meant for shopping. It’s auspicious to buy on this day, which is Dhanteras, which is today. So even if I buy before, I have to come on Dhanteras to buy more stuff,” she said, adding that her shopping experience today was smooth despite the large crowd.

Meanwhile, transport and logistics company owner Nirmal Singh, 63, said he came with his children and grandchildren to Little India to buy bangles.

He said this was his first time shopping here and that the wide range of choices and attractive offers were the main factors that drew them to shop for festive essentials.
