KANGAR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- The 2025 Jamboree in the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) programme in Perlis not only provide opportunities for the state's scouts to enhance their digital communication skills but also strengthens their awareness of cybersecurity through the Safe Internet Campaign.

Perlis Scout Chief Commissioner Huzaimah Muain (She) said the programme, carried out simultaneously nationwide, marked the first collaboration between the Perlis Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)  and the Perlis Scouts Association of Malaysia.

“This strategic collaboration has a big impact because, apart from fostering digital communication skills, participants are also given exposure to the ethical and integrity-based use of the internet.

“We want participants to not only be digitally literate, but also aware of the dangers of cyber misconduct such as online bullying and sexual exploitation,” he told reporters after inspecting the one-day programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Syed Alwi here today.

He said the programme, organised by the West Perlis Scouts and North Perlis Scouts, was held simultaneously with another at Sekolah Kebangsaan Felda Chuping, involving 649 participants who included teachers and Level Two students from 18 schools across the state.

Huzaimah said that among the engaging activities conducted were HF radio communication, Morse code, video communication, as well as interactive sessions on cyberbullying, false information, digital footprints and age limits for social media use.

“This approach allows participants to learn through experience, knowledge, and practical skills. Some even managed to establish communication with scout stations abroad, including in Sabah,” she said.

According to her, JOTA JOTI, held annually in the third week of October, serves as an important platform to enhance global communication skills among scouts while nurturing teamwork and the courage to explore new technologies.

Huzaimah expressed hope that the strategic partnership between the Perlis Scouts and MCMC will continue in other initiatives, such as the badge assessment camp, to further expand the reach of the Safe Internet Campaign among students across the state.
