KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on all Malaysians to continue to strengthen unity, preserve the spirit of tolerance, respect and love which are the foundations of a multi-racial and multi-cultural nation in conjunction with this year's Deepavali celebrations.
In a Facebook post, he also expressed his hope that this celebration would bring happiness and prosperity to all those celebrating it.
"I believe, like the light of a lamp that illuminates the darkness, the unity of Malaysians will continue to be the light that leads this country towards a prosperous and peaceful future. Happy Deepavali. Deepavali Nal Valthukkal," he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, also extended Deepavali greetings, especially to his parliamentary constituents.
Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, will be celebrated tomorrow by the Indian Hindu community nationwide.
