KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Ten Malaysian companies have taken the lead in advancing the nation’s circular economy goals by signing the Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) Pledge, an initiative by Control Union Malaysia aimed at promoting responsible waste management and resource recovery across Malaysia’s industrial landscape.
Control Union Malaysia, in a statement, said the ZWTL Pledge was a key highlight of the Sustainable Action Conference 2025 (SAC 3.0) last Wednesday, which brought together 300 participants, including industry frontrunners, ecosystem partners, and sustainability advocates.
Among the signatories are ADA Biotech Sdn Bhd, CKY Recycle Plastic Sdn Bhd, Dragonpak Industries (M) Sdn Bhd, Entomal Biotech Sdn Bhd, Greenmate Sdn Bhd, Intco Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Kilang Isi Sawit Sin Huat Hin Sdn Bhd, Lean Giap Group, Weng Meng Industries Sdn Bhd, and Control Union Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
The initiative is also supported by Cypark Resources Berhad, Heng Hiap Industries Sdn Bhd, Quinterra PLT, and Weng Meng Greentech Sdn Bhd, which serve as ecosystem partners providing collection, recycling, and recovery solutions across the waste value chain.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Netherlands Ambassador to Malaysia Jacques Werner together with industry representatives and sustainability leaders.
Each participating company also received a pair of sunglasses made from ocean-bound plastic, produced by Heng Hiap Industries, the world’s first Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Certified Company, as a symbolic reminder that waste can be reimagined into valuable products.
According to Control Union Malaysia, the collective effort aims to divert at least 75 per cent of waste from landfills within 12 months, in line with Malaysia’s Circular Economy Blueprint for Solid Waste 2025-2035.
“Each company’s commitment marks a tangible step toward reducing landfill dependency and driving Malaysia’s transition to a circular, low-waste economy through waste segregation, recycling, and recovery innovation,” it said.
Control Union Malaysia Managing Director Supun Nigamuni said the ZWTL Pledge goes beyond a corporate declaration, describing it as a call to action for industries to transform the way they manage resources and waste.
“By working hand-in-hand with industry leaders and ecosystem partners, we’re accelerating the shift from waste management to resource management, building a more resilient and circular Malaysia,” he said in the statement.
