Indonesia will mandate a 10 per cent ethanol blend in vehicle fuels starting in 2027, in collaboration with Brazil, one of the world's largest ethanol producers, the government announced on Friday.

A Myanmar delegation is in China to explore renewable energy sources, including wind and solar. Officials also visited the biomass fuel briquette factory, where they observed how discarded organic materials are recycled and used in industrial operations.

Authorities have warned producers not to add the banned formalin in food preservation, and distributors of the chemical will also be punished. The use of formalin in tofu, bean curd and thin rice noodles is prohibited.

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) on Friday intensified its whole-of-nation initiative to achieve the Marcos Administration's target of planting 100 million coconut palms by 2028.

 

2. THREE WEATHER SYSTEMS TO BRING RAINS OVER PARTS OF THE PHILIPPINES -- PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

Three weather systems will continue to bring rain over parts of the country, the state weather bureau said Saturday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its bulletin that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, the Negros Island Region, and Palawan.

The Bureau of the Royal Household announced that Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, has passed away peacefully at the age of 93.

 

2. ELECTION COMMISSION MULLS 4-BALLOT POLL -- BANGKOK POST

Holding a general election, a referendum on constitutional amendments, and another referendum on the revocation of the Thai-Cambodian border memorandums of understanding on the same day is expected to cost 9 billion baht, according to the Election Commission (EC).

1. CLAMPING DOWN ON ILLEGAL FISHING --- VIETNAMPLUS 

Ho Chi Minh City is tightening regulations on fishing vessels that violate local maritime laws after the European Commission issued a "yellow card" warning against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. Patrols are being conducted at river mouths, coastal zones, and fishing areas.

 

2. RUSSIA-LED SURVEY TO UPDATE  OCEAN DATA -- VIETNAM NEWS 

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences have started their second joint marine survey. The research is to update data on geology, geophysics, gas geochemistry and oceanography.
