ALOR GAJAH, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- The Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme in the Durian Tunggal state constituency has gathered approximately 220 public complaints regarding local issues.
Senior state executive councillor (Exco) for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management, Datuk Rais Yasin, said the complaints covered various problems, including river erosion and matters related to local authorities.
He announced a new initiative for the programme under which 10 Excos will be assigned as mentors, each to one of the 10 Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) in the constituency.
"These Exco members will act as facilitators to address the complaints submitted by the public," he told reporters after the programme’s launch, held at the padi field site in Kampung Beringin today.
Also present were the state exco for Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Communications, Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan and Durian Tunggal assemblyman, Datuk Zahari Abdul Kalil.
Meanwhile, Zahari Abdul Kalil said Durian Tunggal has received an allocation of between RM25 million and RM30 million to add new classrooms to four national primary schools and one national secondary school.
He said the projects are expected to begin next year in a government effort to address classroom overcrowding.
"Durian Tunggal has 37 housing estates, and the largest one, Scientex, alone has about 4,000 houses. This has led to a significant increase in the population.
"It is hoped that these additional classrooms will reduce the number of students per class and provide a more comfortable learning environment," he said.
