JAKARTA, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin has said 61 Malaysian students who previously found themselves stranded at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport are scheduled to return home tonight at 7.55 pm local time.
He said the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta has helped to look after the interests of the stranded students with the cooperation of a local travel agent.
“We hope this sort of incident can be prevented in future,” he told Bernama on Sunday.
Syed Mohamad Hasrin also expressed his gratitude to the local travel agent – a Malaysian – who had agreed to help the students during their four-day visit here.
He hoped that matters between the Malaysian agent and the organiser of the programme, including payments and other aspects, can be settled amicably.
On Friday, the media reported that 61 school students from Selangor were stranded for more than three hours at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport due to transportation and accommodation issues.
In the incident which took place around 3 pm local time, the students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Selasih and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Kapar had arrived in Jakarta on board a flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
