TIMOR-LESTE EYES STRONGER MEDIA COOPERATION WITH BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Timor-Leste has expressed strong interest in expanding media cooperation and professional training initiatives with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) through its state news agency, Agência Noticiosa de Timor-Leste (TATOLI).

Secretary of State for Social Communication Expedito Loro Dias Ximenes said the proposed collaboration would enable TATOLI journalists to gain valuable newsroom experience from Bernama, while deepening media relations between both countries.

“I hope that in the future, TATOLI journalists can come (again) to Bernama to learn and gain experience.

“One day, Bernama may also visit Timor-Leste to share its expertise with our journalists, especially those from TATOLI,” he told reporters during his visit to the International Media Centre (IMC) on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits here today.

Ximenes also conveyed his appreciation to Bernama for its close cooperation and support for Timor-Leste journalists covering the summit.

“I am truly grateful and delighted to visit Bernama (IMC), which I find very impressive and prestigious. Bernama has been very helpful, especially to our journalists who came to cover this year’s ASEAN Summit,” he said.

He said Bernama’s extensive experience in international news coverage serves as an important reference for TATOLI in enhancing the quality of news reporting and information dissemination in Timor-Leste.

Ximenes was accompanied during the visit by Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Established in 2016, TATOLI is Timor-Leste’s national news agency, responsible for disseminating government information in Tetum, Portuguese and English.
