SEPANG, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and his wife Amanda Luxon departed for home after attending the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur.

The special aircraft carrying the couple took off from the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 10.20 pm, following a red-carpet send-off which included a guard of honour mounted by 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said was present to bid farewell to the New Zealand leader and his delegation.

During his visit, Malaysia and New Zealand reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in the halal sector and to concluding the review of the Malaysia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement by the end of this year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Luxon expressed their commitment to this goal during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the summit.

New Zealand also pledged to strengthen its engagement with ASEAN under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was established during the ASEAN-New Zealand Summit today.
