KOTA BHARU, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- A man was seriously injured after allegedly being slashed with a machete by his adoptive uncle in Kampung Kulim, Pasir Puteh, yesterday.

Pasir Puteh district police chief Supt Zaizul Rizal Zakaria said the 44-year-old victim sustained injuries to his right hand and head in the 6.35 pm incident when allegedly attacked by the 55-year-old suspect.

“The suspect, who is the adoptive sibling of the victim’s mother, lives nearby. He is believed to have gone to the victim’s house before allegedly slashing him several times.

“Investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding over past grudges,” he said when contacted by Bernama today, adding that police were alerted to the incident through a 999 emergency hotline.

According to Zaizul Rizal, the suspect had fled when officers arrived at the scene but was later arrested at his home.

“The victim was taken to Tengku Anis Hospital for further treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon or means,” he said.
