RETIREMENT MARKS NEW BEGINNING TO CONTINUE SERVING SOCIETY, SAYS FAHMI

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Retirement is not the end of service for civil servants but rather the beginning of a new chapter to continue contributing to society and the nation, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.

He said the contributions and experience of senior government officers should continue through knowledge sharing and mentorship for the younger generation in the civil service.

“Retirement is actually an important new beginning. The perception of retirement has changed over time.

“For some, it may feel like a form of liberation... finally, no more clocking in. But I hope the bonds and relationships built throughout the years will never be broken,” he said in his speech at the 2025  Communications Ministry's ‘Jasamu Dikenang’ appreciation ceremony here today.

Also present were Deputy Communications Minister Teo Ni Ching, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

Fahmi said the relationship between retirees and current staff should be maintained to ensure the continuity of work values, integrity and camaraderie within the organisation.

He said appreciation for civil servants should not only be given during their tenure but also for their ongoing contributions after retirement.

A total of 114 retirees from various agencies and departments under the Communications Ministry were honoured at the ceremony, symbolising gratitude for their dedicated service and recognising the legacy and inspiration they have left behind for future generations.

Among those who received certificates of appreciation from Fahmi were former Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus, Bernama Office Secretary to the Editor-in-Chief Sharifah Munirah Syed Abdullah, and former Director of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Terengganu, Sabri Mansor.
