KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Perak and Kedah has continued to improve, with the number of evacuees housed at relief centres dropping to 850 tonight from 906 this morning.

In PERAK, the number of victims decreased to 130 people from 36 families still taking shelter at one relief centre in the Manjung district, compared to 136 from 38 families earlier today.

According to the Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, all evacuees are housed at the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai relief centre, while the SK Sungai Batu centre was closed this evening.

In KEDAH, the number of flood victims also dropped tonight to 720 people from 202 families, compared to 770 from 216 families in the morning. The Kedah JPBN said all evacuees from the Pendang, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena districts remained at five relief centres.

“Pendang still has the highest number of evacuees with 572 people from 160 families housed at three relief centres. In Kota Setar, 136 people from 38 families remain at one centre, while in Pokok Sena, 12 people from four families have been placed at a single centre,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, according to the official Public Infobanjir website, the water level at one river in Kedah — Sungai Kedah at the Lebuhraya Bridge, Kota Setar — had exceeded the alert level at 1.66 metres.
