KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The government is examining the possibility of linking school closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) monitoring network to strengthen safety measures and enable real-time surveillance, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

He said the Education Ministry (MoE) has allocated RM8 million for the installation of CCTV in schools, which will be linked to the PDRM system, taking into account the hardware, systems and networking capabilities of the police.

“I will ask the Home Ministry (KDN) to explore the possibility of implementing this integration so that real-time monitoring can be carried out effectively.

“At the same time, the ministry has directed police to enhance their presence around schools through increased patrols and ‘omnipresence ‘surveillance,” he said when winding up the debate on the 2026 Supply Bill (Budget) at the policy stage for the Home Ministry in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution also revealed that a total of 687 bullying cases were reported in schools from 2022 to June 2025, with 105 cases recorded between January and June this year.

“Following the amendment to the Penal Code to include Sections 507B to 507G, police have opened investigation papers on 87 bullying cases from August to September this year.

“For rape cases occurring within school areas, a total of 112 cases were recorded from 2022 to 2025, while two murder cases were reported in schools, involving a student from Lahad Datu Vocational College and another from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Utama,” he said.
