14 DETAINED AS POLICE RAID UNLICENSED NIGHTSPOTS IN THE CAPITAL

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Police detained 14 individuals during raids on six entertainment outlets operating without valid licences and beyond permitted hours in the capital under Ops Noda early this morning.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said those held comprised six local men working as counter attendants, five Thai women suspected of working as guest relations officers (GROs), a Bangladeshi man and two Indonesian women, aged between 22 and 45.

“The premises were also found to be operating without valid liquor licences and employing foreign workers without proper work permits,” he said in a statement today.

Police also seized various audio equipment, five bottles of liquor of different brands, five business receipts and RM799 in cash. A total of 146 individuals were inspected during the raids, including 129 patrons and 17 workers.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(b) of the Entertainment (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) Act 1992, Section 76 of the Excise Act 1976, as well as Sections 55B, 39(b) and 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
