KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Former Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar has been presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Golf Award by the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF).

AGIF, in a statement today, said the award was given to Tunku Imran at the AGIF Awards Gala Dinner here, on Oct 29, for his pioneering role in developing junior golf and strengthening the broader sporting landscape in Malaysia.

It said that Tunku Imran, who founded SportExcel in 1991, had established Malaysia’s first structured junior golf development pathway, nurturing talents such as Ben Leong and Gavin Green through national and international competitions.

“His leadership has transformed golf in Malaysia and inspired the next generation of players and administrators across the region,” AGIF president Chris Gray said in the same statement.

AGIF is the region’s leading non-profit trade body dedicated to the sustainable growth and development of golf.

Based in Singapore, the AGIF represents more than 100 members from across the Asian golf industry, including golf course owners, club managers, course architects, equipment manufacturers, maintenance suppliers and leading golf associations.
