KPDN TARGETS 10 MILLION LOCAL PRODUCT SKUS UNDER KBBM NEXT YEAR

SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) aims to increase the number of stock keeping units (SKUs) to 10 million under the Buy Malaysian Products Campaign (KBBM) next year.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the target was reasonable as this year’s campaign recorded 6,333,529 SKUs - a more than sixfold increase from 1,003,765 SKUs in 2023.

She said this growth showed that local products are gaining wider market access, in line with the ministry’s efforts to strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and improve distribution chains in modern retail and digital platforms.

“In terms of sales value, KBBM recorded more than RM7.4 billion last year, a 13.6 per cent increase from RM6.39 billion in 2023,” she told a press conference after launching the KBBM at Lotus’s Malaysia in Setia Alam here today.

Fuziah said Lotus’s Malaysia recorded over RM44.2 million in sales of local products in 2024, involving more than 2,500 SKUs, an increase of 9.1 per cent compared to the previous year.

“This clearly shows that local products are winning consumer confidence and improving competitiveness among industry players.

“KPDN also welcomes the participation of eight new local suppliers who have officially joined the Lotus’s network, creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs,” she said.

Fuziah added that Lotus’s Malaysia will launch the Spend and Redeem Campaign on Nov 27 to give customers better value while strengthening demand for small and medium industry (SMI) products.

“KPDN remains committed to promoting local products through structured collaboration with 18 supermarket chains and three major e-commerce platforms. We will also expand access to training, certification and market support for MSMEs,” she said.

The KBBM at Lotus’s Malaysia runs from today until Sunday, featuring 19 MSME entrepreneurs showcasing their products.
