CYBERJAYA, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The launch of the Integrated Circuit (IC) Design Park 2 in Cyberjaya marks a major step forward in Malaysia’s bid to strengthen its position in the global semiconductor industry and develop a new generation of highly skilled engineers.

Cyberview Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad said the project is more than just a physical venue as it serves as a catalyst for Malaysia’s transition toward a high-value, innovation-driven economy.

“I hope this project will catalyse Malaysia to emerge as a global leader in the semiconductor industry, aligning with our vision to position Malaysia at the forefront of semiconductor technology.

“I hope Malaysians will take this opportunity, especially our young talents, to come to Cyberjaya and learn about how Malaysia can become a global innovation nation,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the IC Design Park 2 launch, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today.

As a government-owned company driving the development of a holistic global tech hub in Cyberjaya, Cyberview plays a key role as ecosystem integrator and catalyst.

Its collaboration with the Selangor state government and key federal agencies has been instrumental in shaping the vision and execution of IC Design Park 2.

Kamarul Ariffin said the launch also opens new pathways for high-income employment and technological self-sufficiency.

“Actually, the vision is to have about 60,000 engineers. This is an opportunity for our young talents to become IC designers, where the starting pay is higher than that of the average engineer. I think the starting salary is at RM6,000-RM7,000,” he said.

The Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park is a pioneering initiative dedicated to accelerating the growth of Malaysia’s semiconductor industry.

By bridging talent and technology, the park cultivates an ecosystem that supports the design and advancement of ICs.

Elaborating further, Kamarul Ariffin said Cyberjaya is envisioned as a launchpad for Malaysian technology companies to bring their products to the world, benefitting industries and society alike.

“Cyberjaya and Cyberview provide an environment where the tech ecosystem can flourish, where these tech companies can test and validate their innovation or their ideas,” he said.

He said Cyberjaya would serve as a launchpad for Malaysian companies and tech companies to introduce their products.

Startups could use the facilities and collaborate with established tech firms to test and validate their ideas as part of the existing ecosystem, he added.

While no specific startup target has been set, he said Cyberview expects more than 20 companies, including startups and established technology firms, to begin using the hub’s facilities in the near term.

“IC Design Park 2 is only the beginning. We are working on new developments that will support areas like artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies to keep Cyberjaya growing. Our aim is to make Cyberjaya a place where ideas can be tested, improved and shared with the world,” he added.

The Semiconductor IC Park 2 is a continuation of the success of the first IC Park in Puchong, which was launched in August 2024 and now houses 14 companies with over 200 local and international engineers.

As the city with the highest concentration of technology companies in Malaysia, Cyberjaya offers an ideal environment for collaboration and innovation, promising significant spillover benefits to ecosystem players.

Being the developer of Cyberjaya’s Technology Hub, Cyberview plays a key role in advancing the nation’s innovation landscape.

Through attractive incentives offered to the Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), Cyberview is committed to strengthening Cyberjaya’s position as Malaysia’s hub for high-impact technology development.

The IC Design Park 2 will not only expand research and development space but will also house the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia, an advanced training centre aimed at producing 20,000 semiconductor engineers over the next 10 years.

Meanwhile, Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Peng said the corporation’s investment in the IC Design Park 2 project involves two phases.

“In total, both phases will see the participation of 17 IC companies, with each company investing an average of RM15 million,” he said.
