TAWAU, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The capacity of Tawau Hospital will continue to be enhanced to achieve the status of a Category 1 State Hospital (ACE) by 2030, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said.
He said Tawau Hospital currently offers a range of clinical specialty services, including cardiology, reconstructive plastic surgery, and geriatrics.
“The Health Ministry (MoH) will ensure the addition of critical human resources from time to time to enable more efficient and safer medical services,” he said during the launch of the new hospital block here today, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Regarding the launch, Dzulkefly described the new block as a significant achievement in strengthening the health system for the people of Sabah, particularly in the east coast region.
“Tawau is a strategic area that plays an important role in supporting healthcare services for surrounding districts such as Semporna, Kunak, and Lahad Datu.
“The establishment of this new block is an important step to increase treatment capacity while ensuring rural communities have better, closer, and more comfortable access to healthcare services,” he said.
Dzulkefly also said the new block is a project under the 11th Malaysia Plan Rolling Plan, successfully completed by the MADANI Government, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to completing delayed projects for the welfare of the people.
With an investment of RM223.65 million funded by the federal government, the new block adds 154 new beds, bringing the total official capacity at Tawau Hospital to 585 beds.
He said the Prime Minister’s presence at the launch reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable national development, including in the healthcare sector.
“This is the meaning of outcome-based governance, where every Ringgit spent delivers tangible benefits to the people’s well-being,” he said.
