SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) has taken action against 1,926 individuals who did not possess Vocational Driving Licences, Goods Driving Licences (GDL) or Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licences under ‘Op Perang Lebih Muatan-Kenderaan Berat’.

Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said the operation also found that 1,745 individuals did not have driving licences, while another 1,867 did not possess Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM).

He said 679 individuals were found without insurance coverage, 747 were detained for overloading offences and 20 were caught carrying loads exceeding 50 per cent of the permitted limit.

“Based on the undercover statistics for Op Perang Lebih Muatan-Kenderaan Berat, which began on Oct 14 until yesterday (Nov 10), a total of 50,839 vehicles were inspected.

“As a result, yesterday Selangor JPJ seized a ‘low loader’ lorry transporting rolled steel coil and found that the driver did not have a valid GDL or Competent Driving Licence (CDL),” he said at a press conference at the Selangor JPJ headquarters here today.

Azrin said following this, an investigation paper was opened for violating operator licence conditions under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715), and an application would be made to the court to forfeit the vehicle under Section 80 of the same Act.

He said Selangor JPJ would continue enforcement to ensure every driver had a valid and competent licence, especially those operating heavy vehicles.

He also reminded all commercial vehicle operators to be more responsible in ensuring that every heavy vehicle was well maintained and complies with licensing conditions and road regulations.

“Selangor JPJ will continue strengthening similar operations from time to time to ensure the safety of all road users,” he said.
