SUNGAI PETANI, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The Department of Standards Malaysia (JSM) strengthened the implementation of the MADANI Economy at the community level through the Kampung Angkat (Adopted Village) MADANI initiative in Kampung Sungai Pial, Merbok, today.
In a statement, JSM said Kampung Sungai Pial was selected as the department’s adopted village based on its history, unique community profile and the residents’ readiness to participate in community development initiatives.
A total of seven physical projects and three community-based programmes have been implemented, involving an allocation of RM1 million.
“Key upgrading works carried out for the direct benefit of residents include repairs to the village mosque, community hall, kindergarten, school, farm and village roads as well as improvements at the freshwater fishpond area,” JSM said.
Meanwhile, in the same statement, JSM director-general See Chee Kong said the programme adopts an on-the-ground approach to identify and upgrade critical infrastructure that forms the backbone of the community’s daily life.
“This is a catalyst to build trust and ensure the community is in a conducive and well-supported environment to receive technical guidance,” he said.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Singkir also benefited from the Sekolah Angkat (Adopted School) programme, receiving RM100,000 for upgrading school infrastructure.
