TAWAU, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Merotai state seat Datuk Ruji Ubi said that he could serve as a link between the people of Merotai and Putrajaya if voters give him the mandate in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election.
He said that Merotai still requires substantial allocations, particularly for development, and expressed confidence that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH chairman, would be prepared to consider these needs.
“I am confident that the Prime Minister will be willing to listen and consider the allocations needed for the benefit of the people of Merotai. I need support from all quarters so that I can serve effectively.
“I believe the opportunity given by the Prime Minister is a golden chance that the people of Merotai should seize, so that I can help them,” he told Bernama after attending the Mesra Rakyat programme at the Kijang District Voting Centre (PDM) in Merotai, today.
According to Ruji, the Prime Minister emphasised that any allocation given to Sabah must be spent responsibly, without leakage, and in accordance with principles of good governance.

“This is among the wishes of the Prime Minister, when he asked me to return and contest in the Merotai state seat,” he said.
Ruji also expressed hope that his decision to take early retirement from the public service, for the sake of the younger generation in Merotai, would be taken into account.
“If I were to think only about myself and my family, I still had five more years of service as a department head or secretary-general at the ministry. I hope this sacrifice will be given due consideration and that voters will choose me so I can serve the people of Merotai.
“I want to serve the Merotai constituency because I need to give back the knowledge and experience I have gained over nearly 30 years in public service to the place where I was born 55 years ago,” he said.
Early voting for the Sabah State Election is set for Nov 25, while polling day is on Nov 29.
